We hypothesise that neuronal ensembles’ size and local connectivity within hippocapus and prefrontal cortex subareas play an important role as a neural resource for recognition memory, but that these resources requires the engagement of both, hippocampus and prefrontal cortex circuitry, to be fully mobilised. Our research strategy capitalises on differences in animals between high and low performers by investigating how they correlate with the size of the neuronal ensembles in each subareas and with synaptic connectivity at the local and medial temporal lobe and prefrontal cortex network levels during recognition memory.
