Project identifier

In the scope of the DFG research group project 1321 a concept of a mechatronic platform for single-port and NOTES surgery could be successfully realized. The realization of two typical interventions (sigmoidal resection and endoscopic submucosal dissection) was defined as an essential milestone for the initial proposal, which could be fully achieved in the accumulation of all single working packages. Based on this, specific application possibilities for the consequent continuation of the previous research and development performance shall be examined. The potential of the new platform will be utilized for the solution of various central questions of minimally invasive and scarless surgery. The specific application possibilities are described as follows: 1. an appropriate procedure for manufacturing of patient individual and intervention optimized instruments (scalability of the manufacturing process (tailored instruments) 2. the simultaneous applicability of two manipulator platforms with the possibility of direct cooperation (intravascular and intraabbominal procedures) 3. the modification of the platform for the execution of endoluminal anastomosis including the development of a biodegradable implant 4. the integration of the new platform into the operative workflow 5. the realization of a theragnostic application possibility These research topics have a synergetic effect on the further trauma minimization in visceral surgery which eliminates, in the case of successful realization, existing barriers for the implementation of scarless techniques of surgical interventions. For the realization a close cooperation between engineering sciences and informatics (medical and microtechnology, robotics etc.) as well as clinical disciplines is mandatory.
