GRK 1216: Intra- und interzellulärer Transport und Kommunikation
Zusammenfassung der Projektergebnisse
Pro- und eukaryote Zellen zeichnen sich durch eine regulierte, strukturelle, zeitliche und räumliche Organisation aus. Für deren Aufrechterhaltung sind dynamische Verteilungsmechanismen notwendig, welche dafür sorgen, die beteiligten Moleküle zur richtigen Zeit am richtigen zellulären Ort bereitzustellen. Das Graduiertenkolleg 1216 befasste sich mit einem Teilaspekt dieses Themas, dem intra- und interzelluären Transport und der Kommunikation. Hierbei wurden, gegliedert in drei Unterbereiche, (i) die molekulare Basis von Zell-Zell-Interaktionen, (ii) die Zellpolarität sowie (iii) die Etablierung und Aufrechterhaltung zellulärer Kompartimentierung untersucht. Neben wichtigen eukaryoten Modell-Organismen wurden auch Bakterien als Untersuchungsobjekte herangezogen, um dem in den letzten Jahren geradezu explodierenden Wissenszuwachs auf dem Feld der Zellbiologie der Prokaryoten Rechnung zu tragen. In der neunjährigen Förderphase des Graduiertenkollegs 1216 wurden die wissenschaftlichen Themen erfolgreich bearbeitet und weiterentwickelt. Dies zeigen u.a. die erfolgreich abgeschlossenen Dissertationen sowie die Publikationen, an denen die Kollegiaten beteiligt sind. So konnten in sehr guten bis hin zu high impact Journalen wichtige Teilbereiche veröffentlicht werden (z.B. Nature, Science, PNAS). Parallel zu den experimentellen Arbeiten wurden die Kollegiaten in ein Ausbildungsprogramm integriert, das entscheidend zur ihrer Karriereentwicklung beitrug. Neben der Teilnahme an Workshops zu wissenschaftlichen Themen und zu soft skills, wurden in regelmäßigen Vortragsveranstaltungen die Präsentationstechniken der Kollegiaten verbessert. Unter dem Dach des GRK 1216 konnten die Kollegiaten von weiteren Veranstaltungen profitieren. So ermöglichte das GRK 1216 die Teilnahme an und die Organisation von Kongressen sowie Besuche von externen Arbeitsgruppen, bei denen die Kollegiaten über den Marburger Tellerrand blicken konnten. Das im GRK1216 entwickelte, strukturierte Ausbildungsprogram setzte entscheidende Akzente, die nun auch in anderen Programmen der Philipps-Universität weiterentwickelt werden. Schließlich bestand eine überaus fruchtbare und intensive Kooperation und Kommunikation mit dem SFB 593.
