All research projects carried out at MCh are focused on tailoring of phase stability or elastic properties.Spatially resolved analysis of morphology, chemical composition, and chemical state information is an essential requirement for quantum mechanically guided materials design. Currently, we lack the possibility to probe the composition, morphology, and chemical state locally along the composition gradient as well as a function of depth. This information is crucial for implementing our research strategy of knowledge based tailoring of phase stability and elasticity. The Field Emission Auger Microscope operates with an analytical resolution of 8 nm and imaging resolution of 3 nm.
