Final Report Abstract

Im Zentrum des Graduiertenkollegs (GRK) standen die Untersuchung von Quantenfeldtheorien (QFT) und Gravitationstheorien (GT) sowie deren Wechselspiel. Quantenfelder beschreiben die fundamentalen Wechselwirkungen der Elementarteilchenphysik und sind wesentlich für die Konstruktion von Theorien jenseits des Standardmodells. Die auf großen Skalen dominierende universelle Gravitationskraft wird dagegen sehr erfolgreich durch das Gravitationsfeld beschrieben. Beide Theorien profitieren von der methodischen Nähe und gegenseitigen Befruchtung von Physik und Mathematik, insbesondere der Differentialgeometrie, Funktionalanalysis, Numerik und Stochastik. Wegen der inhaltlichen und methodischen Nähe der Teilprojekte und deren Leiter, der zahlreichen Arbeitstreffen und Seminare gab es vielfältige Vernetzungen innerhalb und zwischen den Schwerpunkten. Viele international beachtete Forschungsergebnisse des GRK erschienen in mehr als 200 Publikationen in hoch angesehenen Fachzeitschriften. So wurden mit der AdS/CFT Korrespondenz stark gekoppelte QFTs mit chiraler Anomalie genauer untersucht (Ammon). Hierbei wurden unter anderem neue modulierte Phasen im Wechselspiel mit quantenkritischen Punkten gefunden. Auch wurde erstmalig der chiral magnetische Effekt fernab des Gleichgewichts studiert, und neue Transportkoeffizienten in Anwesenheit starker externer Magnetfelder identifiziert. Ein Projekt aus der mathematischen Physik (Lenz, Hasler) handelte vom Langzeitverhalten physikalischer Systeme. Diese werden durch Halbgruppen mit Markoveigenschaften erfasst. Eine wichtige Anwendung sind Halbgruppen von Schrödingeroperatoren mit starker Unordnung. Die Untersuchungen wurden ergänzt durch die Untersuchung von Schrödingeroperatoren mit aperiodischer Ordnung. E. Novak und Mitarbeiter bewiesen Fehlerabschätzungen für randomisierte Algorithmen, insbesondere für Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MC) Algorithmen. Damit wurden Algorithmen, wie sie zur Simulation von Spin-Systemen verwendet werden, mathematisch exakt analysiert. Für gewisse Approximationsprobleme kann der Fluch der Dimension gebrochen werden. Im Projekt über supersymmetrische Feldtheorien (Wipf) wurden diese mit Renormierungsgruppenmethoden (FRG) analysiert und auf Höchstleistungsrechnern simuliert. Es wurden Teilchenmassen bestimmt, Renormierungsflüsse im Rahmen der FRG konstruiert, die Emergenz der Supersymmetrie auf großen Skalen demonstriert und Fixpunkte von einfachen supersymmetrischen Feldtheorien analysiert. Im Teilprojekt über effektive Wirkungen (Gies) wurden wesentliche neue Evidenzen für die Quantisierbarkeit der Gravitation gefunden: dazu gehören die Resultate, dass die in der Natur beobachtete Existenz leichter Fermionen in Zahl und Eigenschaft mit asymptotisch sicherer Quantengravitation kompatibel ist, und dass die Divergenz des 2-loop Counter-Terms, die störungstheoretische Quantisierung verhindert, im Szenario asymptotischer Sicherheit kontrolliert entfernt wird. Im GRK wurden auch Schwarze Objekte in höher-dimensionalen Kaluza-Klein Theorien mit kompakten Raumdimensionen untersucht (Ansorg, Ammon). Mittels Spektralmethoden wurden hochpräzise stationären Lösungen gefunden, die zwischen Schwarzen Löchern und Schwarzen Strings interpolieren. Die hierbei auftretende singuläre Zwischenlösung wurde erstmalig numerisch konstruiert und dessen kritische Exponenten bestimmt. In einem Teilprojekt aus der Differentialgeometrie (Matveev) wurden Existenz und Eigenschaften von Killing-Tensoren für Einstein-Metriken mit Lorentz-Signatur untersucht. Mehrere Aussagen über Killing-Tensoren wurden von Riemannscher auf Lorentz-Signatur verallgemeinert. Desweiteren wurden analytische und numerische Lösungsverfahren für die Einstein- und Einstein-Maxwell-Gleichungen weiterentwickelt und auf interessante physikalische Probleme wie Schwarze Löcher und Gravitationswellen angewandt (Meinel). Im Rahmen der numerischen Relativitätstheorie (Brügmann) wurden neue numerische Methoden für die Berechnung von Schwarzen Löchern, Neutronensternen und Gravitationswellen entwickelt. Mit im GRK durchgeführten Simulationen gelang es, Gravitationswellen für die Kollision zweier Neutronensterne vorherzusagen und umgekehrt die in jüngster Zeit beobachteten Gravitationswellen bestimmten Modellen quantitativ zuzuordnen.
