The theory of disordered systems in finite and, in particular, low dimensions is still not understood. In this research project an attempt will be made to develop a microscopically justified theory of low dimensional systems. On the one hand, based on recent progress and new methods such as the interpolation method, we aim at making exact analytical statements about low dimensional spin glasses, for instance about the chaos and domain wall exponents. These quantities become accessible via a recently found correspondence between fluctuations and chaos in spin glasses. In order to supplement and check this approach, the statics and dynamics of the vector spin glass on a Bethe lattice will be used to construct a replica symmetric theory at finite connectivity since such a theory is needed if the droplet picture was valid in low dimensions. Taken together, we expect a consistent theory of the low temperature phase in low dimensions.
