SFB 567:  Mechanisms of Interspecific Interactions between Organisms

Subject Area Biology
Term from 2001 to 2011
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 5484428

The collaborative research centre studies symbioses in a broad sense. Its basic goal is to establish a general biology of the interactions between organisms belonging to different species. This is achieved by investigating interaction systems from a broad spectrum of species and over several levels of organisation. Interspecific interactions are studied from the molecular to the ecosystem level. The collaborative research centre brings together researchers from evolutionary biology, physiology, molecular biology and biophysics. The main focus is on plants and their interactions with viruses, bacteria, animals, fungi and other plants. In addition, animal/bacteria, animal/fungus and animal/animal interaction systems are being studied. The comparative assessment and integration of the results should elucidate basic and general mechanisms of the interaction of organisms belonging to different species.
