SFB 487:  Regulatory Membrane Proteins: From Molecular Recognition to Drug Targets

Subject Area Medicine
Biology
Term from 2000 to 2011
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 5483958

The basic theme of the collaborative research centre are proteins on cell surface which regulate the function of these cells and constitute potential drug targets. The main goal is the evaluation of new targets for new drugs. For this purpose it is attempted to understand the structure of membrane proteins, the interaction of these proteins with other proteins, the binding of small molecules to membrane proteins and the effects of such binding on the function of cells and of organs. Another aim is the identification of unknown signalling pathways. The collaborative research centre consists of fifteen subprojects.
