SFB 390:  Magnesiumtechnologie

Subject Area Materials Science and Engineering
Term from 1995 to 2002
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 5479650

Under the topic "Magnesium Technologies for Complex Applications" magnesium materials will be determined and optimised in respect of metallurgical, material scientifical as well as processing aspects. Focal point is the elaboration of material basics due to the influence of elements, congeal and forming processes on the material behaviour of modern magnesium alloys. On these cognitions follows an improvement of metallurgical processes, manufacturing and production techniques to put this on further theoretical knowledge for optimal process engineering in powder forming, spray forming, die/squeeze casting and superplastcity. Another conceptual basis is the contemplation of matrix composites and due to new coating and welding techniques created composite materials and constructions. Tests to examine the effect of fatigue and corrosion on mechanical properties as well as the environmental impact ground the basis for a structural component design concept which is to be developed.
