SPP 472:  Spezifische Phänomene in der Silicium-Chemie

Subject Area Chemistry
Term from 1995 to 2002
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 5458095

Current developments in silicon chemistry - especially in the field of two- and three-dimensional systems - show a deficit in understanding; this situation calls for novel experimental and theoretical strategies. The deficit concerns aspects from basic and from applied chemistry. It is the aim of the priority programme to address the following four topics: (1) Novel phenomena of materials with Si-Si bonds, (2) Construction of functionalized Si-O systems, (3) Silicon in unusual coordination, and (4) Problems of structure and bonding. Special attention is directed to the problem of a better understanding of the transition from the small molecule to the nanostructured material; this target requires interdisciplinary cooperation.
