By the trend of manufacturing small and human oriented products, the needs of scaling down of the conventional sheet metal forming process is necessary. Furthermore thorough understanding of scaling effect on the mechanical properties and development of mini-press machine specially are needed, too. The purpose of this project is to unterstand the scale effect by doing miniaturized tensile test. A device for the miniaturized tensile test will be designed and inserted to the conventional tensile test machine in order to get little vibration and increase accuracy during the test. With variable sizes of specimens, tensile tests will be performed. By understanding the rule of scale-down effect using mechanical properties from miniaturized tensile tests, a software which can calculate suitable mechanical properties for the desired size with considering scaling effect will be developed. Finally, simulation and experiment of simple cup drawing process will be carried out varying the sizes of tools from few hundred mm to few mm. Comparing both results from simulation and experiment, the developed software will be verified.
