The aim of this project is to synthesize metallotetraphenylporphyrin (MTPP) derivatives that contain metal complexes covalently bound to their periphery. Metal ions such as Fe(III/II), Mn(III/II), Co(III/II), and Cu(I/II) will be located in close contact to the porphyrin center which may also contain one of these ions. Such systems should allow metal-metal- as well as metal-porphyrin-interactions. Because Porphyrins are inherently redoxactive, it is frequently observed that this p-electron rich system donates electrons to metals in high oxidation states. It can be assumed that such porphyrin radical cations interact with paramagnetic metal ions giving rise to novel materials with magnetic properties. The metal ions will be ligated by groups such as malonates, cyclopentadienes, and oligoamines.
