The goal is the foundation of an online journal in open access format with a "double-blind" peer review process in jurisprudence with a focus on criminal law by five scholars of LMU Munich. "Neue Strafrechtswissenschaft" (NSW) will publish quarterly scholarly articles on fundamental issues of German criminal law, comments on decisions of the highest German courts, and reviews of works, at no cost to the author. The journal addresses the entire German-speaking criminal law community and aims to fill a gap in the field of legal studies by being the first German criminal law journal to consistently combine open access and peer review. A pool of top-class peer reviewers ensures both the excellent quality of the published articles and a non-discriminatory author selection. At the same time, online editing and a clear character limit significantly shorten the time to publication, from which young scientists in particular benefit. The long-term operation of the journal is ensured by a comprehensive sustainability concept based on seven pillars.
