Simulation of Complex Surfaces with Non-Body-Fitted Discretisation (T12#)

Subject Area Hydraulic and Turbo Engines and Piston Engines
Term since 2023
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 119193472

The aim of the transfer project is the implementation of the Immersed Boundary Method (IBM) and a synthetic boundary condition to prescribe turbulent wakes (BC) into the flow solver TRACE. TRACE is used by the MTU Aero Engines AG to develop aero engines. The implementation of the IBM and the BC will be verified and validated based on reference data generated within the subproject B3. This qualifies TRACE as a numerical test rig for high-fidelity simulations of rough turbine and compressor blades with realistic boundary conditions as present in multistage turbomachinery.
