Project 06 is dedicated to monumental seven-branched candelabra that were, as Christianadaptations of the Jewish menorah, made for and erected in churches. The project will interpretedthem as ‘figures of aesthetic reflection’ and systematically scrutinize their materiality, form and meaning, and also address their spatial and socio-cultural contexts, their functions, and their role in performative practices. Thus, it focusses on genuinely art-historical, but alsoon intercultural and interreligious issues. Its general approach is inspired by the Material turnand Practice theory, and builds on the SFB-model of ‘praxeological aesthetics’ in conceivingthe artefacts as both subject and object in the context of actions.
