Against the background of current social polarizations and the reaction of (educational) policy to these polarizations, discussions and ambiguities have arisen in the field of political education and democracy education, which are made the starting point of the network. The network focuses on various concepts of political education and democracy education that originate from different professions and, according to the network's initial thesis, have so far had little or no exchange with each other. This relative isolation of the fields generates ignorance and false ideas about the 'other'. On the other hand, mutual understanding of terms and concepts of the respective other field - or between the fields - offers the chance to achieve a better understanding, a further development of the topics underlying the fields, of didactic and pedagogical concepts as well as an improvement in pedagogical and political education practice. The network focuses on the fields of democracy education and political education and takes into account other theories and concepts related to these fields, such as those of democracy education and democracy promotion. In addition to those mentioned as 'opportunities', the fundamental aim of the network is to work together in an interdisciplinary way on the relationship between democracy education and political education and to identify commonalities and differences at the level of concepts and concepts.
