Project Details
The noradrenergic system´s contribution to neural resource in aging (A08#)
Subject Area
Human Cognitive and Systems Neuroscience
Term
from 2021 to 2024
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 425899996
The integrity of the locus coeruleus (LC)-noradrenergic (NA) system is important in determining late-life cognitive abilities. The proposed project examines whether differences in the integrity of the LC-NA system can explain preserved cognitive functions in so-called ‘SuperAgers’ and whether boosting the LC-NA system offers hidden potential in boosting neural resource in ageing. This will be achieved by increasing NA function pharmacologically as well as by training particular cognitive functions known to recruit the LC-NA system in physiologically healthy older adults.
