Plastic food packaging requires a gas barrier to protect food. Commercial plastics, such as. B. PET, do not have a sufficient blocking effect. Multilayer films produced by coextrusion exhibit this barrier effect, but their components cannot be separated economically, and therefore cannot be recycled according to type. The present transfer project should work out how plastic film can be plasma-chemically equipped with a barrier layer using PECVD. These barriers are very thin (a few 10 nm) SiO2 layers, with which the web is to be coated. Many physical and material science issues have been successfully dealt with. Thanks to the cooperation with experienced industrial partners, there are also very good solutions for the crucial technical questions, which should be checked, investigated and verified in the transfer project.
