Characterization and modeling of thin-walled carbon-reinforced concrete membranes exposed to multiaxial stress and cracking (C02)

Subject Area Structural Engineering, Building Informatics and Construction Operation
Term since 2020
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 417002380

To predict the structural performance of carbon-reinforced concrete (CRC) structures, the knowledge of the constitutive laws of different stress transfer mechanisms (STMs) activated within cracks is of key importance. Leveraging a newly developed combined torsion and axial force testing apparatus (TorAx), C02 will systematically explore compression softening in cracked CRC as well as stress transfer in straight and undulated cracks. Employing computer tomography will offer detailed insights into the behavior of embedded yarns, aiding in developing mechanistic models, that will be validated by subjecting cracked CRC membranes to diverse load combinations and monitoring responses through digital image correlation (DIC) and fiber optic sensors (FOS).
