Project Details
GPU- extension of the central HPC-Compute-Cluster
Term
Funded in 2020
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 440142592
An existing central Compute Cluster of the University will be equipped with components especially for use in research on artificial intelligence. It will be extended by graphics accelerators of different performance classes and hard disk caches as a supplement to a parallel file system. The Heinrich Heine University of Düsseldorf sees the use of methods of artificial intelligence, in particular machine learning, as a central success factor for research in all faculties of the university. With KI @ HHU, it has established a research strategy on artificial intelligence. The the Heine Center for Artifcial Intelligence and Data Science (HeiCAD) is a new central scientific institution to implement this strategy, and the Manchot Research Group “Decision making using artificial intelligence techniques” is an interdisciplinary, third-party funded joint project in the field of artificial intelligence. In addition, a whole series of scientifically very successful working groups at Heinrich Heine University are already dependent on the use of methods of artificial intelligence. Numerous other working groups have announced that they will use these methods soon.In this scientific environment, a powerful artificial intelligence and machine learning infrastructure is a key requirement for the University's research success. The requested device is intended to create the hardware infrastructure necessary for this research.
