Subject to the investigation is the fourteenth century manuscript AM 657 a-b 4° that contains about 80 exempla, being the bigger part of exemplary narrative that was preserved in medieval Iceland. It focuses on the question of the literary-historical importance of the manuscript with regard to its formation and content. The basic objectives are the identification of the sources the individual narratives derive from, the analysis of the adaptation process connected to the reception of continental short narratives and the evaluation of the ways of composition and contextualization of the individual parts of the collection in order to come to a conclusion about its function(s) and its significance for the cultural and literary-historical situation in fourteenth century Iceland.
