Project C06 explores transformations of the early modern demonic illusion and its contribution to a ‘different’ aesthetics. In the second funding phase, the project will concentrate on the externalisation of the demonic illusion in the apparatus, i. e. in the laterna magica projections up to Robertson’s phantasmagoria, and – in the medical discourse – on the internalisation of demons through inner perception. Based on the praxeological model of the CRC, the interactions between projection technologies, medical concepts (hallucination, dream) and an aesthetics of horror will be demonstrated for German and French literature. In this way, the project will open up perspectives on the modern period.
