In the first phase of the project, a Lattice Boltzmann Method (LBM) was developed for linear elastodynamic problems with cracks. The method was extended from anti-plane shear problems to plane problems. Special consideration was given to the treatment of boundary conditions. These are especially of importance for crack problems, which involve time-dependent non-lattice conforming boundary conditions on the crack faces. Recently new LBM were established that are based on moment chains. This concept is very attractive to treat the balance laws of continuum mechanics of solids (mass and momentum balance in conjunction with a constitutive law). Thus, this new way will be followed in the new phase of the project. The approach will be used to incorporate geometric and constitutive non-linearities. Special focus will again be given to elastodynamic settings with cracks.
