The main objective of this project is to prepare and investigate low-valent group 13/15 compounds stabilized by NHC ligands.13/15 compounds tend to be to oligomerization, since both Lewis acid and Lewis basic atoms are present. Consequently, targeted stabilization and isolation of low-valent, monomeric compounds of this element combination has hitherto been achieved only in a few exceptional cases. In this project, the tendency to form oligomers is systematically suppressed by the use of NHC ligands which optionally coordinate to the Group 13 or Group 15 element. This makes it possible to access a new class of compounds whose structures, bonding and properties have so far been very little known. In the further course of the project, the findings from the investigated 13/15 compounds are to be used to determine other low-valent compound classes of the element combinations 14/15, 15/15 or even ÜM/15.
