EXC 270:  Asien und Europa im globalen Kontext: Die Dynamik der Transkulturalität

Zusammenfassung der Projektergebnisse

Der Exzellenzcluster Asien und Europa im globalen Kontext wurde 2007 von Mitgliedern der Philosophischen und vier weiterer Fakultäten aufgebaut und 2012 weitergefördert. Aus dem Cluster hervorgegangen sind 2013 das Heidelberger Centrum für Transkulturelle Studien (HCTS) und 2019 das Centrum für Asienwissenschaften und Transkulturelle Studien (CATS), das als erster geisteswissenschaftlicher Forschungsbau von Bund und Land gefördert wurde. Die wachsende Bedeutung Asiens bestimmt die Welt im 21. Jahrhundert. Forscher am Cluster untersuchten daraus entstehende Spannungen, Risiken und Chancen. Disziplinäre und Sprachen-Vielfalt, geographische Breite und historische Tiefe sind Markenzeichen des Clusters, die Vorteile einer Volluniversität wurden optimal genutzt. Von Anbeginn bezweckte der Cluster eine grundlegende Neuausrichtung der bislang primär nach nationalstaatlichen Mustern strukturierten Fächer, die der Dynamik nicht gerecht werden können, die sich aus vergangenen wie gegenwärtigen Verflechtungen europäischer und asiatischer Gesellschaften ergeben. Deren Analyse wirft auch eine kritische Sicht auf etablierte Disziplinen und deren Begrifflichkeiten, Taxonomien und Wertestrukturen. Der Cluster hat diese kritische Perspektive umgesetzt, indem er 1. 5 nachhaltig gestellte Professuren und, in der 2. Phase, 2 Start-Up Professuren, die quer zu den Disziplinen ausgerichtet sind, etabliert hat; 2. 10 Nachwuchsgruppen in den Geistes- und Sozialwissenschaften eingerichtet hat; 3. Projekte mit einer transkulturellen Perspektive in 4 Forschungsbereichen (A Governance and Administration, B Public Spheres, C Health and Environment/Knowledge Systems, D Historicities and Heritage) gefördert hat; 4. ein internationales Graduiertenprogramm für Transkulturelle Studien (GPTS) und einen englischsprachigen Master in Transkulturellen Studien (MATS) etabliert hat; 5. den Aufbau innovativer Open-Access Publikationen zu Transcultural Studies und der Heidelberg Research Architecture (HRA), einer Digital Humanities Unit, gefördert hat; 6. die Gründung des HCTS als Zentrales Institut der Universität und langfristige angelegte Forschungsplattform mit einem Graduierten-, einem Fellowship- und einem Forschungsprogramm vorangetrieben hat; 7. Mittel zum Bau des CATS eingeworben hat, ein für die Geistes- und Sozialwissenschaften völlig neuartiges, transdisziplinär und transregional angelegtes Kollaboratorium, das in seinem zentralen Medienzentrum der Erschließung hybrider, digitaler und konventioneller Quellenformen dient. Die transkulturelle Perspektive - ein Forschungsparadigma, das heute unweigerlich mit Heidelberg verbunden wird - ist Teil der Gesamtstrategie der Ruperto Carola (Field of Focus 3 „Kulturelle Dynamiken in globalisierten Welten“). Außerdem ist das Forschungsfeld Cultural Heritage, das durch Forschung im Cluster signifikant weiterentwickelt wurde, zu einer der Flagship Initiatives in der Exzellenzstrategie geworden.
