The cement industry is continuously adapting its production to cements, which cause lower CO2-emissions. This is often achieved by a partial substitution of the cement clinker by limestone powder. The limestone quarries of many cement plants are covered by a thick layer of dolomitic limestone or dolomite. The material from this layer cannot be used for the production of cement. There exist no distinct technological reasons for the exclusion of dolomite powder as a main constituent in blended cements. The use of dolomite powder in blended cements could raise the sustainability of cement production. Aim of the project is thus, to achieve basic knowledge about the performance of blended cements containing dolomite powder. To achieve this, the impact of dolomite powder on cement properties, cement hydration and on the durability of concrete shall be investigated in detail.
