This theory project investigates the behavior of magnetoelectric sensors and sensor arrays based on piezoelectric and magnetostrictive composite materials. The first research focus is on the modelling and simulation of surface-acoustic-wave (SAW) sensors with phononic crystal resonant enhancement and phononic metamaterials. The second focus is the systematic understanding of the behavior of magnetoelectric sensors in clinical systems. In particular, a system for detection of magnetic-nanoparticles in an in-vivo implant will be designed and simulated.
