The subproject analyzes selected sources for the ancient catechumenate with regard to lingual and rhetorical aspects; in correlation, it investigates the implicit or explicit expectations concerning the rhetorical abilities of teachers. The findings from the ancient sources are related in a diachronic and comparative manner to discourses on the competencies of Religious Education teachers in public schools in contemporary Germany. Based on both samples of results, the subproject develops a role-model for religious educators (in the realm of Christianity) with special regard to the rhetorical dimension of teaching and learning religion.
