The DFG knowledge transfer project aims to implement the scientific findings and technical solutions of the DFG basic research project Ambient Learning Spaces (ALS) (previous project) in two schools and two museums into sustained practical use. ALS applications should be assessed for their suitability for use, further optimized and finally evaluated whether and how the use of learning applications affect learning success in terms of motivation and sustainability for children and adolescents in school and museum context. The aim is to examine how the new forms of interaction and services that arise with the ALS-learning applications favor the construction of knowledge and the formation of skills in the context of formal and informal education. In the context of the use of ALS-learning applications in the two real world learning environments (school and museum), two didactic concepts (individual learning with interactive media and collaborative learning with collaborative media) should be examined more closely. In order to provide reliable semantically annotated location- and device-specific personal media for learners while using the AS-learning applications it will be necessary to stabilize and scale the current prototype of the cloud-based semantic multimedia repository Network Environment for Multimedia Objects (NEMO) to serve several hundred users (a typical user volume in school and museum) while using the ALS-learning applications in a real-world context. The developed educational and computational concepts of mixed reality systems for learning shall undergo qualitative and, as far as possible, quantitative evaluations. Besides the study of usability, user experience and satisfaction the educational effectiveness should be shown at different levels. These results will be fed in a project network, set up during the past 12 years. It consists of educational and cultural institutions, particularly universities with teacher training institutions of pedagogical education and training, kindergartens, primary and secondary schools, institutions of extracurricular youth education and museums, as well as conveyors. Already developed applications and technical solutions should be further modularized and institutionalized. With the project Ambient Learning Spaces, the German research catches clearly up with international research in the areas shown. With this holistic approach the research even takes a visible leading role regarding the approach of technological and media studies as well as the broad implementation and evaluation (cf. publications). This should be underpinned and secured with more transfer-related publications.
