Conservation laws determine a large number of processes in thenatural environment and technical systems. In this Graduiertenkolleg various researchers from different areas like mathematics, engineering or natural sciences come together to work on the common aspect for the modeling and numerical treatment of conservation principles. The scientific program covers the modeling of processes to separatemixtures of matter by membranes, sonochemical reactors or the transport of nutritive salts and vegetable seeds in the ocean. The interaction of the earth ground and the atmosphere poses questions on turbulence modeling as well as questions concerning different releavant scaling models. Interaction processes play an important role for the dynamic behaviour of ships at the water surface. The mathematical projects concern numerical schemes for non-standard conservation laws, the development of numerical schemes adapted to different scales as well as meshless methods, which should be used forthe transport equations obtained from the modeling part.
