PubPharm - Specialised Information Services for Pharmacy

Subject Area Pharmacy
Term since 2015
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 267140244

FID Pharmazie - Reliable and Innovative Infrastructure for Cutting-Edge Research. FID Pharmazie provides the academic research community with comprehensive and tailored access to pharmaceutical information resources. It has been jointly operated by Braunschweig University Library and the Institute for Information Systems at TU Braunschweig since 2015. In addition to classic search and full-text access options to extensively licensed journal publications in the field of pharmacy, other pharmacy-relevant content such as clinical studies, patent specifications, or research data is also accounted for. In its central search platform PubPharm (www.pubpharm.de) the FID bundles an innovative service offering. This service portfolio is constantly extended in close cooperation with the specialist community. In the current funding period, the focus will be on the consistent improvement of existing services and the exploration of additional innovative research services. The new PubPharm architecture is continuously adapted to the needs of the community. All development activities will continue to tightly focus on active ingredients as the key to pharmaceutical information. In terms of content, PubPharm will be expanded by integrating additional metadata types and sources and supplemented even more intensively than before by references to research data. At the request of the community, a suggestion function for thematically related publications is being developed for the search platform. At the same time, citation relationships between documents will be made transparent. In the area of innovative services, the declared goal is to expand narrative information access: Drug Overviews will be enriched by narrative patterns extracted from literature, search results will be ranked in pharmacy-specific ways, and relationships between disparate pieces of information will be intuitively visualized. New services will be designed to support the generation of new hypotheses and, by means of machine learning methods, help to intelligently structure and even explain various aspects of research questions. A consistently research-oriented approach to development ensures that the services offered are a perfect fit for the pharmaceutical community. The content of the specialist repository pharmRxiv will also be expanded, thus extending the FID's open access activities. The early involvement of researchers in the development of FID services and the intensive feedback with the specialist community will also be continued in order to improve existing services. Public relations work appropriate to the target group ensures awareness and use of all FID services.
