The project aims at the development of stoichiometric and catalytic protocols for nickel-mediated manipulations of fluoroorganic compounds. Within this project nickel complexes, which are stabilized with one or two NHC (NHC = N-Heterocyclic Carbene) ligands will be systematically investigated with respect to an application of these complexes in C-F- and C-H bond activation reactions of fluoroaromatics, the reaction mechanisms involved in these transformations, the selectivity of the bond activation step for the reaction with partially fluorinated substrates and fluorinated substrates with hetero atom substituents, as well as application of these complexes in catalytic reactions. A long term goal of the research project lies in the development of chemo- and regioselective reactions for the transfer of polyfluorinated building blocks to organic molecules and in the development of selective functionalization reactions of polyfluorinated arenes.
