Final Report Abstract
The DFG Research Grant aimed to use templating effects to control the sequence of the building blocks in polymer chains. Such a control should be able to give us more control over the properties of these materials. Templating, which is achieved by preorganization of the monomers, was achieved by the binding of two different monomers in a single cavity of a cyclodextrin moiety, by using hydrogen bonding of certain solvents and by using covalently bound templating moieties. The work provides a number of different methods to prepare polymers with tailored structures, and these methods could therefore be used to study the influence of the monomer sequence on the properties of the polymers, to create functional materials, etc.
