Zusammenfassung der Projektergebnisse

This project is related to the prost-cruise research of IODP Exp 303 (Northern Atlantic Climate 1). One of the main objectives of Exp 303 was to establish the Pleistocene intercalibration of paleointensity, isotope and regional environmental stratigraphies, and in so-doing develop a millennial-scale stratigraphic template. The section studied at Site U1304 represents a relatively continuous pelagic sequence where the sediments record changes in productivity as a response to oceanographic and climatic fluctuations. The study of long sequences of diatom-rich laminated sediments at Site U1304 deliver ultra-high resolution information on climate and hydrography variability of the subpolar Atlantic. The proposed multi-parameter approach contributes to the comprehension of the relative phasing of atmospheric and oceanic changes in the high-latitude North Atlantic that are central to our understanding of the mechanisms of global climate change on orbital to millennial timescales.
