Zusammenfassung der Projektergebnisse
Zentrale Fragen zum menschlichen Geist – dazu gehören Wahrnehmung und Bewusstsein, Sprache, kognitive Entwicklung und psychiatrische Erkrankungen − lassen sich nur in der Zusammenarbeit unterschiedlicher Disziplinen wie Philosophie, Linguistik, Computerwissenschaften, Psychologie und Neurowissenschaften bearbeiten. Seit der ersten Runde der Exzelleninitiative 2006 stellt sich die Berlin School of Mind and Brain (M&B) dieser Aufgabe mit einer Graduiertenschule, die national wie international große Anerkennung gefunden hat. In der Wettbewerbsrunde 2012 erneut ausgezeichnet, erweiterte M&B sein wissenschaftliches Profil um das Thema Soziale Kognition und richtete einen zweijährigen englischsprachigen Masterstudiengang sowie ein strukturiertes Programm mit Maßnahmen zur Karriereentwicklung für fast 40 Postdoktorand/innen (abgeschlossen 2019) ein. Doktorandenprogramm und Masterprogramm werden nach Auslaufen der Förderung durch die Exzellenzinitiative mit Unterstützung der HU Berlin fortgeführt. M&B hat äußerst erfolgreiche Absolvent/innen hervorgebracht. Seit 2006 haben 85 Promovierte das Programm abgeschlossen, 69 (= 80%) mit einer durchschnittlichen Einreichdauer der Doktorarbeit von 3,2 Jahren. Die Abbruchquote liegt bei lediglich 6,5%. Derzeit hat die Graduiertenschule 67 aktive Doktorandinnen und Doktoranden. Promovierende und Alumni haben mehrere Hundert eigene Publikationen vorgelegt und hervorragende Anschlusspositionen – zumeist in der Wissenschaft – gefunden. Fünf Absolvent/innen sind auf Professuren berufen worden, sieben befinden sich auf Gruppenleiter-Positionen, viele weitere auf attraktiven Postdoc-Stellen in Labs weltweit. Nach 13 Jahren spielt M&B eine zentrale Rolle bei der engen Vernetzung von universitärer (HU, TU and FU Berlin, U Potsdam, U Magdeburg, U Leipzig), klinischer (Charité) und außeruniversitärer Forschung (Max-Planck-Institute Berlin/Leipzig; Max-Delbrück-Zentrum) im Metropolraum Berlin. Im Januar 2017 errang unsere Graduiertenschule den ersten Preis der Einstein Stiftung Berlin beim Wettbewerb der besten Berliner Doktorandenprogramme. Die Grundfinanzierung von M&B wird nach dem Ende der Exzellenzinitiative durch die HU sichergestellt. Gleichzeitig haben wir rechtzeitig eine größere Zahl von Drittmittelanträgen und Kooperationen auf den Weg gebracht, die sämtlich erfolgreich waren: So wurde mit unserer Unterstützung 2016 das Einstein Center for Neurosciences (ECN) eingerichtet. M&B-Mitglieder haben 2018 das DFG-Graduiertenkolleg 2386 „Extrospektion“ eingeworben. M&B ist eine der gastgebenden Institutionen der neugegründeten Max Planck School of Cognition und unterstützt den Exzellenzcluster 2002 Science of Intelligence (SCIoI) (TU/HU Berlin) seit 2018 bei Aufbau und Durchführung einer Graduiertenschule. Zusätzlich ist M&B im Begriff, eine neue Einstein Profil-Professur „Soziale Intelligenz“ einzurichten, die uns noch enger mit SCIoI verbinden sowie die Lehre für das Masterprogramm sicherstellen wird.
