This project aims to make late-stage biosynthetic enzymes (tailoring enzymes) from polyketide biosynthesis applicable as biocatalytictools for chemical natural product synthesis. According to their natural role, they will be used to substitute lateand crucialstepsin the endgameof total syntheses. Thereby, thetarget structures for the synthetic part are simpler and derivatives become easier accessible. The usefulness of the chosen approach will be demonstrated onthe ambruticins and the jerangolids.Chemoenzymatic total synthesesthat merge chemical synthesis with biosynthesis will be developedand be used to accessnovel derivatives.
