This proposal considers centralized and decentralized design for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) interference channels (ICs). Fully distributed design will be mainly based on a game theoretical approach. The system will be modeled as a strategic non-cooperative game, where the MIMO links are the players and the transmit powers of the transmitters are the payoff functions. Each player competes against the others by choosing its transmission strategy that minimizes its own transmit power, given a certain Quality-of-Service (QoS) constraint, e.g., on the minimum achievable rate, SINR, etc. This problem is known as a generalized Nash equilibrium problem (GNEP). Because of the QoS constraints, the set of feasible strategies of each player depends on the strategies of all the other users, which makes the GNEP more difficult to handle than the standard NEP. We aim at providing theoretical analysis of the existence/uniqueness of a GNE, as well as (distributed) algorithms that can achieve/approach a GNE. Additionally, we are also interested in Pareto optimal strategies, which usually can only be obtained by centralized processing of all links. Generally, a Pareto optimal strategy relates to a non-convex optimization problem. We plan to parameterize/characterize the Pareto boundary under different assumptions, and develop centralized/decentralized algorithms that can achieve/approach a certain Pareto optimal point.
