EXC 1056: Zentrum für Perspektiven in der Elektronik Dresden
Zusammenfassung der Projektergebnisse
Die vielen Anwendungen elektronischer Systeme haben die Halbleitertechnologie zum wichtigsten Fortschrittsmotor unserer Zeit gemacht. Da die Weiterentwicklung der wichtigsten Halbleitertechnologie (CMOS) zunehmend an Grenzen stößt, setzte sich der Exzellenzcluster „Center for Advancing Electronics Dresden” (cfaed) zum Ziel, neue komplementäre Technologien voranzutreiben. Um seine Ziele zu erreichen, vereinte der Cluster aktiv die erkenntnisgetriebenen Naturwissenschaften mit den auf Innovationen fokussierten Ingenieurwissenschaften. In einem ganzheitlichen Ansatz wurde die Forschung ausgehend von Materialien bis hin zu komplexen, heterogenen Informationsverarbeitungssystemen vorangetrieben. Um die Erfolgschancen zu maximieren, verfolgte der Cluster mehrere Ansätze in seinen Forschungsbereichen. Diese sog. kooperierenden „Pfade“ bildeten ausgewiesene Kompetenzen im Cluster und an der TUD ab. Die cfaed Investigatoren beeinflussten die Elektronik mit bahnbrechenden Ergebnissen und definierten völlig neue Forschungsfelder (z.B. rekonfigurierbare Elektronik, 2D konjugierte Polymere, Taktiles Internet). Wir haben spezifische Strategien angewandt, um unseren ganzheitlichen Ansatz vom Material- zur Systemebene umzusetzen, der ein wichtiger Fokus für cfaed als Forschungscluster der TUD bleibt. Um seine ambitionierte Forschungsvision umzusetzen, gewann und förderte cfaed erfolgreich junge Nachwuchsforschende. Wir eröffneten neue Karrierewege, führten strukturierte Karrieregespräche ein, gewannen überdurchschnittliche viele Doktorandinnen, etablierten ein sehr gut angenommenes Doktorandenprogramm in enger Kooperation mit der TUD Graduiertenakademie. Wir konnten hervorragende Strategische cfaed Professoren gewinnen. Die meisten unserer 13 Nachwuchsgruppenleitenden haben sich zu berufbaren KandidatInnen für internationale Professorenpositionen entwickelt. Unsere Promovierenden fanden nach ihrem Abschluss sehr gute Positionen in Industrie und Wissenschaft weltweit. cfaed ist eine Zentrale Wissenschaftliche Einrichtung und hat sich zu einem weltweit anerkannten Zentrum der Mikroelektronik-Grundlagenforschung entwickelt. Das cfaed etablierte das Dresden Center for Nanoanalysis als Technologieplattform für cfaed, TUD und die DRESDEN-concept-Partner. Durch die Zusammenführung der cfaed-Gruppen in einem neuen Gebäude mit dedizierten Laboren entstand eine starke Identifikation mit cfaed, und die interdisziplinäre Zusammenarbeit zwischen den Gruppen und benachbarten Fakultäten wurde gefördert. Den berühmten Dresdner „Spirit“ lebend half cfaed auch der TUD, ihren Status als deutsche Exzellenzuniversität zu bekommen. cfaed ist einzigartig positioniert im größten Mikroelektronikstandort Europas. Deshalb ist der Cluster von strategischer Bedeutung für die Region, was durch das Engagement der lokalen Industrie in Clusteraktivitäten wie Karriereentwicklung, Lehre und Forschungsprojekten untermauert wird.
