While airframe noise can be reduced using porous surface materials, the aerodynamic behavior is thereby often adversely affected. This project develops volume and Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes equation models for predicting the effects of porous surfaces on turbulent boundary layers. The current implementation of a Reynolds stress turbulence model accounts for homogeneous and graded materials, and is calibrated using inverse Bayesian updates. The model will be extended and integrated in optimization chains for ability to determine minimum flow noise of wings.
