The performance of aircraft with short takeoff and landing capabilities can be improved using circulation control with active unsteady blowing. Economic efficiency of commercial aircraft calls for maximizing the ratio between the lift gains and the blowing momentum. This project investigates the efficiency of active unsteady blowing using numerical and experimental approaches. Based on a thorough characterization using simulations and laboratory tests, the potentials of adaptive spanwise-varied actuation coupled with closed-loop flow control at large Reynolds numbers will be exploited.
