The research project aims at gaining findings about the dangerousness of persons released after having served a long term juvenile prison sentence. To this end the project conducts a countrywide analysis of official criminal records of convictions, criminal court files and inmate personnel records on those violent or sexual offenders that have fully served a five years juvenile prison term at the least. Three groups will be compared: reconvicted persons because of further sexual or violent offences with non-reconvicted persons or those reconvicted only because of other offences. Thus the criminological differences between those groups can be identified and risk factors indicating dangerousness after the release can be determined. This will allow to evaluate if there is a need for a preventive detention after juvenile imprisonment - a legal provision recently introduced to the Act on Juvenile Courts.
