Laser-induced transfer technology for controlled fabrication of nanoparticles and 3D metamaterials

In the present project, the development of a novel technology for the fabrication of microstructures containing metal and dielectric nanoparticles as elementary building blocks is proposed. This technology is based on a combination of femtosecond laser-induced transfer (LIT) of metallic and dielectric particles and two-photon polymerization (2PP) techniques. The controllable fabrication of high quality spherical metal micro- and nanoparticles with a minimum size below 200 nm and a maximum size above 1 μm can be realized using the LIT approach recently demonstrated in our group. These particles can be deposited onto different substrates and into arbitrary 2D and 3D polymeric microstructures. In combination with the two-photon polymerization technique the LIT approach provides unique possibilities for the fabrication of micro- and nanostructures containing metal and dielectric nanoparticles as elementary building blocks. Experimental and theoretical study of the fabricated structures proposed in this project will allow realization of novel 2D and 3D metamaterials and nanophotonic components. This new technology can also find interesting applications in microfluidics, sensors, photovoltaics, and biomedicine.
