Zusammenfassung der Projektergebnisse

The project led to numerous approaches towards the control of the polymer structures and of the product morphology in polyolefin polymerization. For the first time, it was possible to synthesize “block” copolymers incorporating 1-undecene and propene blocks using the strategy of sequential monomer addition. It was shown that synthesized comb-like structures are suitable for the design of new functional polymers with well-defined polarity, functionality and degradability. These polymers have the potential to improve surface and interface properties of polyolefins and are also promising candidates for application as compatibilizers for inorganic nanoparticles. Furthermore, the in situ metallocene polymerization of propene in presence of special synthesized filler with Kanemite structure resulted in the preparation of polypropylene nanocomposites with remarkably superior degree of exfoliation of the filler. In addition, it was shown that the use of specially designed supports offers new pathways to spherical and fibrous polyolefin. Easily accessible porous particles can serve as versatile supports of various metallocenes and postmetallocenes. Using fibers as support leads to PE fibers which can be used in membranes or in composites. Loading different adjusted catalysts on supports results in the synthesis of LLDPE as ethylene is oligomerized to short olefins which are incorporated in a PE chain. Using of hollow spheres and emulsion droplets allows for the polymerization of olefins in a confined geometry, which offers new opportunities for the achieving the size control in olefin polymerizations. Overall the achieved results clearly demonstrate the importance of combining experts in the area of supports, catalyst design and polymerization processes.
