In Subproject C1, process-oriented numerical models for mechanized tunneling are developed to predict design and steering parameters and their uncertain spatial and time dependent interactions in the design stage as well as during the construction of tunnels. Real-time simulations based upon these models will enable a fully interactive tunnel track design in Subproject D1 and allows to assist the steering of the tunneling process during construction, taking uncertain geotechnical parameters and several risk and reliability based steering objectives into account, such as the damage risk of existing buildings.
