Project Details
Modification of cell-cell and cell-matrix communication within bone tissue by new materials ((11) B05)
Subject Area
Orthopaedics, Traumatology, Reconstructive Surgery
Term
from 2010 to 2019
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 107540325
The potential of bone replacement materials to stimulate osteogenesis is decisively determined by the immune reaction in the host tissue. In the third funding period the investigations of the material-cell interface in B5 are to be extended by the use of cell culture techniques and biophysical methods to the interaction with cells of the immune system, with a focus on dendritic cells (DC) and macrophages. For this, the interactions of bone-forming cells with DC and the influence of specific material properties are investigated; it is to be clarified to what extent these interactions in osteoporosis are changed and how bone substitutes change DC function.
