Project Details
Regulation of vascular repair and remodelling by non-coding RNAs (B01)
Subject Area
Cardiology, Angiology
Term
from 2010 to 2021
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 75732319
Non-coding RNAs comprise <200 nucleotide small non-coding RNAs, such as microRNAs, as well as long non-coding RNAs. Whereas microRNAs are well established as regulators of mRNA stability and translation, lncRNAs have multiple functions and their role in the cardiovascular system is mainly unclear. We determined the regulation and function of microRNAs and lncRNAs with respect to atherosclerotic disease in mouse models and humans. In the next funding period, we will determine the role and mechanism of action of the lnRNAs MALAT1 and NEAT1 in vascular remodelling. Moreover, we will use single cell sequencing to decipher the regulation of microRNAs and lncRNAs in circulating endothelial cells in humans by coronary artery disease.
