In the continuance application the LC-filter based line side system perturbation takes centre stage. The filter capacitor voltage and the line side current show unacceptable harmonic content independent of the control strategy. These harmonics result out of the of resonance behaviour of the line side LC-filter in combination with line side voltage harmonics and current harmonics produced by the matrix converter modulation. By adding active damping methods to different control strategies the quality of the line side current should be improved with respect to national standards. Because of the reduction of passive filter components the efficiency of the matrix converter will be increased. The efficiency of the electrical machine will decrease because of additional losses. Furthermore the matrixconverter will work more stable and a reduction of the space needed by the filter will be possible.
