SFB 701: Spektrale Strukturen und Topologische Methoden in der Mathematik
Zusammenfassung der Projektergebnisse
Spektrale Strukturen und topologische Methoden waren grundlegend für die am SFB 701 zusammenarbeitenden Mathematiker aus sehr unterschiedlichen Gebieten der theoretischen und angewandten Mathematik. Neue Konzepte der mathematischen Physik haben in jüngster Zeit entscheidenden Einfluss auf die theoretische Mathematik gehabt und haben neue Forschungsgebiete auch in diesem SFB eröffnet wie zum Beispiel die Seiberg-Witten-Invarianten in der Topologie, universelle Spektralverteilungen aus der der Quantenphysik in der Zahlentheorie und die Anwendung von Konzepten aus der Quantenfeldtheorie auf Modulräume der algebraischen Geometrie aber auch Konzepte der Quanten–Informationstheorie für die Quantengruppen. Andererseits finden moderne Methoden der theoretischen Mathematik und insbesondere der Topologie und Zahlentheorie und auch der stochastischen Analysis und der freien Wahrscheinlichkeitstheorie nicht nur Eingang in die theoretische Physik und anderen Anwendungsgebieten der Mathematik sondern auch zum Beispiel in den Materialwissenschaften, der Kristallographie, der Hydrodynamik und der mobilen Kommunikation. Im Sonderforschungsbereich haben reine und angewandte Mathematiker unterschiedlicher Richtungen im engen Austausch zusammengearbeitet, um das beträchtliche Potenzial solch gebietsübergreifender Verbindungen nutzbar zu machen.
