Optical manipulation of electron photodetachment in aqueous halide solutions: verification of atom-electron contact pairs via pump-repump probe spectroscopy

Final Report Abstract

In conclusion, in the present project we performed series of pump-probe and pumprepump-probe investigations on Cl–, Br–, I–, OH– dissolved in water and different alcohols, as well as on neat water. Our investigation sheds light on the electron photodetachment mechanism providing quantitative information on the involved recombination processes. Our data represent an experimental verification for the formation of the predicted donor-electron pairs. Furthermore, we find a novel fast recombination mechanism after electron photodetachment of aqueous hydroxide and neat water. The results demonstrate the potential of the pump-repump-probe spectroscopy to elucidate the mechanism of ultrafast ET reactions in more detail.
