The aim of this project is to develop a new experimental technique: the time-resolved surface plasmon interferometry in order to investigate the dynamics of weakly excited electron gas in metals and interactions in the composite semiconductor-metal nanostructures. The enormous enhancement of optical signals due to surface plasmon excitation, in our case a specially designed nanostructured surface plasmon interferometers, will be combined with ultrafast and ultrasensitive time resolved spectroscopy techniques. This should make possible to study various interactions at single-photon level on ultrafast time scale. In case of success possible applications of the technique may range from fundamental understanding of poorly investigated interactions of nanoscale light emitters with metals to applications as ultrafast plasmonic devices in 2D-integrated nanophotonics.
